Genesis Magma Racing is preparing for one of the biggest challenges in its young history: its debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the flagship event of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC).

The team will make history as the first South Korean manufacturer to compete in the legendary endurance race, widely regarded as one of the most demanding events in global motorsport. For the race, Genesis Magma Racing will field two GMR-001 Hypercars in the premier class.

Despite promising results in the first two rounds of the WEC season, including scoring its first points at the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, the team is taking a cautious approach to its maiden appearance at Le Mans. Internal assessments suggest the race will be an extreme test for the cars, drivers, and race operations.

The immediate objective for Genesis Magma Racing is to get both cars to the finish and classified in the results. To achieve this, each car must complete at least 70% of the distance covered by the winner and remain operational at the end of the 24-hour race.

That goal requires a high level of reliability from the GMR-001 Hypercars as well as flawless execution in the pits, as even minor operational mistakes can compromise the result in a race defined by mechanical wear, complex strategies, and constant changes of pace.

To mark its debut, both cars will feature a special livery with a gradient running from deep red to bright Magma Orange, the team’s signature color. The design continues the concept first unveiled last year at Le Mans on the GMR-001 Hypercar show car displayed in the Manufacturers Village.

In addition to its technical preparations, Genesis will strengthen its presence throughout race week. The brand will host guests from its global markets as well as members of its international leadership team. Its presence in the paddock and the Manufacturers Village will showcase Genesis’ hospitality philosophy, inspired by the Korean concept of “Son-nim,” meaning honored guest.

As part of its final preparations, Genesis Magma Racing conducted an endurance test at Le Castellet, France. The session allowed all team drivers, including official reserve driver Jamie Chadwick, to accumulate valuable mileage in the GMR-001 Hypercar.

During the test, a nighttime session also gave Paul-Loup Chatin his first laps in the car under low-light conditions. He was able to experience the powerful beam produced by the Two-Line headlights, a distinctive visual feature of Genesis vehicles.

The team says it continues to learn from every session. Following the first two WEC rounds, several minor technical and operational improvements have been implemented based on issues identified, with the aim of arriving at Le Mans with a stronger and more reliable operation.

With realistic ambitions, Genesis Magma Racing views its debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans as a strategic milestone. More than pursuing an immediate result, the team sees the race as a critical step in the development of its Hypercar endurance racing program.
